Zendesk alternative: a contact centre, or an advisor who sells?

AMAlexandre Marchisio, founder of RymaUpdated: 31 August 20265 min read

Zendesk is the global reference in customer support: ticketing, telephony, help centre — the full contact-centre kit. If you are looking for an alternative, it is rarely because the tool is bad. It is because your need sits somewhere else. For an online store, the question almost always comes out the same way: do I need a support platform billed per agent and designed for whole teams, or an advisor who knows my catalogue and does what no helpdesk does — sell? Ryma is the second answer. She learns your products in depth, advises each shopper the way a good counter assistant would, in English, French or Arabic, and walks them to the cart on your site and on WhatsApp, while your team keeps the wheel from a dashboard. Here is the difference line by line, with every figure attributed — including where Zendesk remains the right choice.

Zendesk is excellent. At a job that may not be yours

Credit where it is due: Zendesk is a mature support platform, and its customer stories show it. We quote the Lush one ourselves on our home page: 369% return on investment, $434,000 saved a year, 82% of requests resolved without an agent (levers and figures reported by Zendesk on that customer story). For an organisation handling thousands of tickets with a dedicated team, the tool delivers.

But look at what that story measures: requests resolved, costs saved. That is the vocabulary of support — absorb volume at the best possible cost. A beauty or skincare store lives on something else: a shopper hesitating between two serums, asking whether a product is safe during pregnancy, and buying because someone advised her well. That moment is not a ticket waiting to be closed. She wants a safe answer, and then she buys. That is Ryma's job, not a support centre's.

In one sentence: Zendesk equips your support, Ryma sells your advice. For the deeper difference between answering and acting, see our guide on AI agents versus chatbots.

Per-agent billing, seen from a three-person store

According to its public pricing page (consulted July 2026), Zendesk bills per agent, per month, with entry plans in the low tens per agent, advanced AI modules charged on top — also per agent — and usage-based billing beyond the included credits for some automated capabilities. Three meters, then: seats, modules, consumption.

That logic makes sense for a twenty-agent support centre. For a store where two or three people do everything, it means paying for a platform sized for an organisation you don't have, and then paying again so the AI can answer in your place.

Ryma starts from the other end. No seat count, no modules to stack. A proposal made for your store, after we've looked at your catalogue and your volumes. You know what you're paying, and your best season doesn't punish you for it. No surprise invoices.

What a support centre will never do for your store

Beauty advice touches your customers' health: pregnancy, breastfeeding, reactive skin, ongoing treatments. A general-purpose platform leaves you alone with that risk — it is on you to write the guardrails, and to hope they hold.

Ryma is built for that ground. She only advises from your real catalogue, never a product she invented; her register of guidance is reviewed and approved by health professionals; and sensitive cases go to your team, exactly as they would at the counter. The full detail is public: reliability, GDPR and responsibility.

And the result is measured on the customer's side, not only in tickets closed. At Beautymarket, the number one beauty and skincare store in Morocco (1,000,000 visitors a month, measured by SimilarWeb), the advisor handles more than 70% of requests end to end — measured in testing. The full case, method included: the Beautymarket case.

Who Zendesk is still right for

The same comparison, the other way round.

  • You run a real contact centre: several teams, phone lines, contractual SLAs, productivity reporting. That is Zendesk's ground, not Ryma's.
  • Your first problem is cost per ticket, on a large volume of after-sales requests: an automated support platform is the right answer.
  • You sell a product with no advice dimension: an expert advisor will not earn her keep with you.

If, on the other hand, your product sells through advice and nobody answers your customers at half past ten at night, compare on the evidence: try the advisor live from the home page, and put what you see next to your Zendesk invoice.

Frequently asked questions

Can we run Ryma alongside Zendesk?

Yes, and it is a common setup: Zendesk stays your support team's workstation (tickets, telephony) and Ryma takes the pre-sale — product advice, diagnosis, guidance to the cart, follow-up. Your team sees every conversation the advisor has had in the Ryma dashboard and takes over in one click.

Zendesk has AI agents too. Why Ryma?

Zendesk's AI agents automate the resolution of support requests. Ryma is built for the opposite of a ticket desk: knowing your catalogue in depth, advising in English, French or Arabic on a register reviewed and approved by health professionals, and leading to the purchase. Two different jobs.

What does Ryma cost compared with Zendesk?

Zendesk publishes a per-agent, per-month grid, with AI modules charged extra and usage billed beyond the included credits (public pricing page, July 2026). Ryma works on a proposal made for your store, with no seat count, after we've looked at it. No surprise invoices.

Is leaving Zendesk for Ryma a big project?

No, because there is nothing to migrate. On Shopify, Ryma starts from the app you authorise inside your store; anywhere else, from a catalogue export. Plenty of stores keep their helpdesk for after-sales and add Ryma for the advice that sells.
